Redbone&#8217;s version appears in a 2021 TV commercial for Applebee&#8217;s. Also appears in the movies The Postman (1997), Dick (1999) and Grown Ups (2010).<\/p>\n<p>Redbone the first Native American band to reach the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, with the song reaching number 5.<\/p>\n<p>The word &#8220;redbone&#8221; is a Cajun term for a mixed-race person, which the band adopted to signify their mixed ancestry.<\/p>\n<p>The band often alluded to Cajun and New Orleans (\u201cThe Witch Queen of New Orleans\u201d) culture in their lyrics and performing style.<\/p>\n<p>According to Pat Vegas, Jimi Hendrix, himself part Cherokee, inspired the musicians to form an all-Native American rock group.<\/p>\n<p>Redbone&#8217;s music was characterized by the Leslie rotating speaker effect that Lolly Vegas used for his electric guitar amplifier and a &#8220;King Kong&#8221; style of drumming developed by drummer Peter DePoe.<\/p>\n<p>Redbone was inducted into the Native American Music Association Hall of Fame in 2008,[25] as well as the legendary NY Smithsonian in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Wovoka means &#8220;cutter&#8221; or &#8220;wood cutter&#8221; in the Northern Paiute language.<\/p>\n<p>Bassist: Pat Vegas.
