BASS COVER NOTES: as you can clearly tell the bass line is brilliant but will repeat for the entire song….. I only covered the first verse or so.. use it as your guide if you want to learn it.

This was the follow-up to The Four Tops’ big hit “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch),” which spent two weeks at #1 in the US.

Both songs were written by the Motown songwriting/production team of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland and Eddie Holland, who were the right guys to call for a hit on short notice.

the song eventually made it to number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number two on the R&B chart.
